Priced out of the Hobby

I've come to the decision, after looking at Games-Workshop prices and the fact that they're inevitable to rise like they do yearly, that I am going to stop collecting at the rate I have. Honestly, when I started I could deal with paying $35 for a ten man squad of tactical marines and the battle forces all being well worth it. A great example, the Tyranid Battle Force was $90... it gave you 8 Gene-Stealers, 8 Termagaunts, 8 Hormagaunts, various rippers, 3 warriors, and a Carnifex. That's an amazing savings. Now it's pretty much the same just lacking the Carnifex and the increase in $15.

Now let's look at the next problem with the hobby... Everything is crazy expensive. You have some companies out there that claim that they want you to buy their products, and in turn they price them to the point where you will! A great example is Dust Warfare. I haven't received my rulebook yet but I have a strong feeling that when I do it's probably going to show me that I need crazy amounts of infantry. I don't have a problem with that however because if I buy from the manufacturer, I can get a large amount of beautiful all ready assembled models together or if I just simply buy the starter kit I save even more money.

Assault on Black Reach... I remember when that cost $75... I bought two of them only to find out that the miniatures really weren't that amazing in terms of customization and what they could do. Honestly though, I'm ok with that as long as I can run an army competitively and successfully. Games-Workshop is not going to be drawing in young children if they continue to raise prices. No one is arguing that the miniatures are beautiful, not one bit... And no one is arguing that the game itself isn't fun... Hell I own probably 6-7k of Space Wolves... I have probably 2.5k in Grey Knights, 1.5k-2.5k in Tyranids, 1.5k in Dark Eldar, 1.5k in Orks, then some various Imperial Guard and Tau laying around. (No not thousands of $$$ but rather points game wise.) I'm announcing that I am not going to be purchasing at the rate I had been.

I'm not going to be giving up on the hobby entirely. I enjoy the miniatures, and I enjoy painting and assembling them alot more than the gaming aspect but I enjoy the gaming aspect as well. I'm at the point where, I had been maybe spending $250 minimum a month on games-workshop, that money will be going elsewhere. I understand how business works and I understand when there is a premium product you can charge a premium price for it but when it costs $20 dollars for a single HQ choice, a single FINE CAST product... or when you charge $50 for 3 Wraiths when a company has proven that they can make a unit of Wraith for $27... 3 wraiths in each option and honestly the difference between the two is not worth another $20... I'm sorry Games-Workshop but you've priced a valued customer out of the hobby.

Some amazing miniature companies that I will still be drooling over will be Fantasy Flights (and their Dust lines.), Mantic's Warpath, and I'll still be watching Games-workshop's 40k... just most likely slowing down to maybe a unit every few months from them.

Axis Gorillas the Looks

My Axis Gorillas, otherwise known as the Blutkreuz Korps Kampfaffen Squad, have just come in and the models are beautiful. I'm going to keep this short and sweet and this is just based on how they look. Later on in the week when my copy of Dust Warfare gets here I'll do a review on how they fare in the game. Also, check out the video if you are interested in seeing more of the figures.

Also check out the youtube video of these models. :) Enjoy. click here

New Necron Pictures!!!

Well, we have them, we finally have them!!! The only complaint I have with the models right now is the paint-job, hopefully I get my grubby fingers on them soon and am able to paint them in the bone colors they should be done!!! :D

Dust Warfare!!!

Rather recently we got word that Fantasy Flight had released it's Core Rulebook for Dust Warfare!!! This is absolutely amazing that it was released earlier than expected mainly because Amazon had it pegged for mid May. This however, meant some bad things for my credit card which is now maxed out. Luckily, it's credit and doesn't have to be paid for two weeks...

With my copy of the Rulebook on the way I'll be digging right into this book hopefully by Friday and I'll have a review up for you with how the rules may play in comparison to games such as 40k, Warpath, Warmachine, ect., Honestly, Dust Tactics was amazing for a boardgame and with Andy Chambers having a hand in this game it may have the best of Warhammer 40k and with the similarities I saw in AT-43 and Dust Tactics I've got to say this tabletop may be amazing.

I'm hoping that I'm not the only one excited about the game... And I'm also hoping that I'm not overly excited for something that could turn out to be spoiled milk... Here's to hoping that it all goes well!!! I'll do some reviews on the models that are coming this week as well and throw the videos up on youtube along with some minor descriptions of them here.

New Apothecaries

My favorite character in any Space Marine army is the Apothecary. It is their duty to ensure that the Space Marine chapter carries on and that they are able to harvest the geneseed. The only thing I hadn't enjoyed about them as a character, or a unit, or whatever you would like to call them, is the lack of options... Until now.

Forgeworld has made pre-heresy Apothecaries that look fantastic!!!

"Among the many ranks and honours of the Adeptus Astartes, it is that of the Apothecary, perhaps, which holds the most respect for the import of his role. Well-versed in the arts of cybernetics, chirurgery and bioengineering required to transform a mortal aspirant into a post-human Angel of Death as well as battlefield aid, the Apothecary must also be a warrior of unquenchable bravery and might. If a battle-brother falls, it is the Apothecary that will tend his wounds so that he may return unto the conflict. If his wounds are too great, it is the Apothecary that will grant him the Emperor’s Peace and it is the Apothecary that will ensure the Chapter’s due is taken from the battle-brother’s flesh; removing and guarding the sacred progenoid organs that will be implanted into a new aspirant.

Designed by Mark Bedford, the Space Marine Apothecary Set contains two multi-part resin models, allowing you to build Apothecaries in MkII ‘Crusade’-pattern and MkIV ‘Maximus’-pattern power armour. Each is packed with detail, from the heraldry of the Apothecarion to the many stasis-flasks and medicae-systems borne into battle by these peerless warriors. The Space Marine Apothecary Set is available to pre-order nowfor despatch from 27th April."

Cyber Gigante Beetle

Do you need to fill the slot of the Necron Spyder? Well you can either wait until May 5th to purchase the real one from Games-Workshop or you can check out the Cyber Gigante Beetle that Puppetswar has put out! Let's get right into the meat of the topic.

These are now available for purchase. Check out the link below to purchase these guys.

May 5th Rears closer!!!

As I said recently, BeastsofWar has announced that the second wave of Necrons is coming. I am personally one of those people that refuses to buy third party models until I see the Games-Workshop versions. (You can thank Mythicast for that after the 5 War Wolves I bought that look hideous in comparison to Games-Workshops.) Well I'll be the first to say that I'd happily buy the not Necron line from Puppetswar.

We will most likely know what the pre-order kits will look like, also giving us an idea of how we want to shape our Necron armies. The rumored flyers haven't been mentioned so no word there but we do know this... Wraith, Spyders, and Tomb Blades will all be in this kit. The reason this is crucial is puppetswar.eu has made some amazing figures to be put into the slot since we didn't have the models. Now with their release it will give us a real comparison as to what to buy.

We also know that some of puppetswar.eu will most likely be cheaper, example their Wraiths. The only reason I could see spending $33 on 3 wraith is if there are some good bits in there that can be used through out the Necron army. I also have a feeling that if they come out to be $45 that I won't even look at them, I'll most likely just buy the ones from puppetswar.eu.

Expect a full comparison when we get pre-orders up and we'll go over pros and cons. Also, expect an awesome scarab beetle coming out.

Dust Warfare

Having been a longterm AT-43 player and having a fully playable Therian army and a large collection of Karman's... I was sad to see that the game known as AT-43 and the rest of Rackham Entertainment being liquidated. The worst part about the liquidation, I know some people were excited to see miniatures go for cheap, is the knowledge that there will be no new miniatures, that there will be no new blood in the game, and that it most likely will not be played at your local game shop.

With this being said, a lot of the artwork that can be seen in Dust Tactics and the new game Dust Warfare, looks identical to that of AT-43. I have not done any research into who crossed over and when but I do know that Rackham and Fantasy Flight were working closely together on AT-43 and seeing the artwork it is obvious that now that Rackham is gone it's talent has gone to where it could be utilized.

Let's jump right into the meat of the topic and that is the miniatures. AT-43 was nice because it was prepainted. Some people complained... like they always will... but you can still paint prepainted minis which is why I fail to understand why some are angry at that concept. Fantasy Flight is offering cheap minis that are ready to be used right out of the box. A great example of this is, with Games-Workshop I have to put together my models, paint them, and then play... (I hate playing with unpainted miniatures) but with Dust Warfare they're at least primed separate colors so I know who is who and don't have to worry about grey on grey combat.

I also like the fact that as said, they're primed. That means if you want to, which most of us will, we can then paint them. The game also plays very similar to that of AT-43 so anyone who enjoyed that game will feel right at home with Dust Warfare. The final piece to this, it seems like it has enough backing and a future so it appears to be a game that I myself am going to be jumping head first into. Watch the video below released by Fantasy Flight.

Necrons May 5th

May is going to be a dangerous month for me... Not only are the Veer-myn from Mantic's Warpath expected to come out that month but Games-Workshop will be releasing the second wave of Necron's. Necron's have been an army I personally have wanted to play since I got into the hobby simply because I loved the way the warriors looked. With the recent rule changes and all the fluff they've received from Matt Ward, I couldn't help yet buy a kit of Warriors.

The only thing from stopping me at the moment of buying a massive Necron army is the fact I don't have a job. That however does not stop me from appreciating the fact that thanks to Beast's of War on May 5th we should expect the second Necron Wave so I know what I'm asking for my birthday. This is amazing.

There are no pictures but luckily Beasts of War has some concept art:

I'm debating posting the 2000 point list I put together but just to give everyone a heads up, it would run something like this... 2 Tomb Stalkers, 3 Monoliths, several troop choices and the likes. I'll probably post the full list at some point through out the week. :) It looks amazing on paper, not sure how it would play out.

The final bit we received from Beast's of War is this...

Beasts of War
"The next release of Necrons are coming on May 5th 2012.

We don’t have any photos of the forthcoming release but we do have an artist’s sketch of the final Necron Triarch Stalker model. It looks very similar to the Codex art work and what allot of people have already built at home

Our information suggests that the release will include the:
Triarch Stalker
Tomb Blade
Canoptek Wraith
Canoptek Spyder
Nemesor Zahndrekh
Vargard Obyron
Illuminor Szeras
Destroyer Lord Upgrade Pack
Heavy Destroyer Upgrade Pack "

I cannot wait until May!!!

Miniwargaming - Dark Potential

Well I'm excited to see another game get started. Miniwargaming.com, as we all know of them, has started a fundraiser to see if they can reach $30,000 to start up their game and get some models going. To my knowledge, they've reached almost $40,000 and they still have 28 days left that they're taking contributions. This is amazing because it looks like they're definitely going to get this game started.

Check out this video to learn more about Dark Potential and if you'd like to contribute to them. :) It looks promising. http://www.indiegogo.com/darkpotential

Word on Sisters of Battle?

Has anyone heard anything about the Sister's of Battle? I got my hopes up in the summer when they released the White Dwarf update which lead me to hope that maybe we would see finecast models. I am, personally, glad that we didn't see finecast because I can't stand the warping and issues on them. I feel like the only models I don't complain about in Finecast is Necrons and that's because they're so much more forgiving.

I remember reading a lot of rumors about they were in production, samples were made, production casts had been screwed up, blah blah blah. Needless to say I think my blood pressure went through the roof with the amount of salt I had to take after the rumors there. So my question is, anyone have anything NEW about the Sister's of Battle?
